BQ51050B: %Vcold and %Vhot design

Part Number:BQ51050B

Hello,

I am working with this device while I have some questions regarding the temperature sense circuit design.

If you look on the datasheet, on Page 8, there are some thresholds in percentage of internal TS bias voltage for different temperature levels, like 0, 10, 45, and 60 Celsius degrees.

I have questions regarding the equations on Page 24, how could you design the %Vhot and %Vcold thresholds?

From I understanding of this, if we say the safe charging temperature range is 0 to 60 Celsius degrees, according to the electrical characteristics on Page 8, the percentage should be typically from 13.1% (60 degrees) to 58.7% (0 degrees), right?

However, I calculated back by the given example on Page 25, and I just found out the %Vcold is 36.424% while %Vhot is 33.169%. This is quite different from the design perhaps.

Therefore, I wonder if we should define the %Vcold and %Vhot, is it free to choose in between 13.1% and 58.7%? I personally doubt a little bit about the correctness of R1 and R3 on Page 25. Would you confirm that please?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

Part Number:BQ51050B

Hello,

I have a custom made application using a Qi-Receiver to charge my Li-Ion accu.

Some times I have a strange behavior on TS-CTRL the usual 24ms high 240ms low are gone and I will have 6ms high followed with 50ms low, 24ms high, 420ms low, repeat.

Charge is off.

Where does this behavior comes from and how can I start charging again?

Thanks for help!

Hi team,

We are interested in charging a 2S battery wirelessly with the option of having an auxiliary wired input as well. It seems like the BQ51025 will be a good choice if we pair it with the BQ500215. Is there a recommended charger that we can use in conjunction with this that will allow for the auxiliary input?

BQ51051B: switch Vout between battery and wireless power

Part Number:BQ51051B

Hi all,

I'm developing a low power Iot device, and I'd like to power it using wireless power (no wired power supply). I found the BQ51051B as possible solution but I need some claryfication on its use and in general about the wireless charge tecnology. My scenario is the following:

1) Device near the wireless power transmitter: the wireless power receiver inside the device should give power to the device and at the same time recharge the battery device.

2) Device far the wireless power transmitter: the device is powered only by the inside battery.

In the schematics I found, the BQ51051B is used to recharge only the battery but not to power other circuits, where I can found a correct schematics ? should be BQ51051B able to give an VOut pin when I can switch power between battery power and wireless power source?

Thanks!

We use TI Ref. design TIDA-00329 with BQ51050B, same BOM, same PCB.  Any requirements for the RX coil? How to choose/design?

We need a very small RX coil, should be 1cm diameter, charging current 20mA should be enough.

Any chance? or any recommendations?

BQ51010B: Unable to receive wireless power transmitted through BQ50002EVM-607 and trying to receive using custom made receiver

Part Number:BQ51010B

Dear All,

I am trying to make a custom wireless power receiver (altium project attached) using BQ51010B and TPS63051 buck boost regulator to get 3.3V output.

I have thoroughly reviewed the documentation of both the ICs and selected the components as recommended. To get charge current (I_BULK) of 0.5A; I have selected R_ILIM. I am using 7.5uH (732-6211-ND) coil from Wurth.

Seemingly there is not much complication in the circuit but when I tested my Rx circuit with the BQ50002EVM-607; I get no voltage on BAT (pin4) of BQ51010B and neither obviously I am not getting anything at the output of TPS63051 as well.

Also I have some specific questions as well:

1. I have noticed a mistake in the design that I am trying to put the Rx Coil directly on the AC1 and AC2 terminals of the chips and the resonant caps are being bypassed. So my question is; what is the role of these resonant caps; are they really important that if we bypass them; we won't receive any power? Any literature on this?

2. I have not put any rechargeable battery or the load, I think the output voltage should have still be appeared. Right?

Can anyone please have a lot at my schematic and suggest me where the problem might be.

Thanks for your time.

BQ51050B: Schematic review for Compact wireless receiver made from BQ51050B and TPS63051 Buck-Boost 3.3V regulator

Part Number:BQ51050B

Dear All,

I am working on this building a simple and compact wireless receiver using BQ51050Band trying to get the regulated 3.3V using TPS63051. I have also built a PCB but I am not getting any output on BAT (pin4) of BQ51050Q and neither on Vout (pin4) of TPS63051.
Here is the schematic of BQ51050B

Charging current has been set to 500mA and 10% termination current.

BAT voltage is being regulated using TPS63051 as shown in schematic below:

I am using 732-6211-ND coil (7.5uH) from digikey as a receiver coil.

On the transmitter side, I am using standard BQ50002EVM-607 from TI and I did not do any changes on Tx side; just supplied it with 5.0V supply and testing with the receiver (schematic shown above). Please note that I have not connected any battery on BAT terminal? Does it make any difference? Also if the L' is not properly calculated; the values of C1 and C2 might be wrong; so how big a difference should it make on the performance.

Any suggestions how to proceed with the debugging?

I will be really obliged if someone takes his time to review and let me know why the Rx circuit is not working.

Thanks

Hello!

I use the BQ51025 to make a wireless charge for 9 - 10v.

The development board (PWR649A) for BQ51025 uses hole size 0.152mm (6mil) (Figs 1 and 2), but my PCB design company can make hole size only > 0.2mm (8mil). Can I use hole size 0.2 mm? (Figs. 3, 4,  5, 6)

BQ51050B: TS/CTRL error causing power transfer stops from BQ50002EVM-607 to custom made BQ51050B based receiver

Part Number:BQ51050B

Hello everyone,

I had posted it earlier as well but could not get satisfactory explanation about my error.

I am testing my custom made BQ51050B based receiver which is being powered up using  BQ50002EVM-607 Tx. Here is my initial schematic:

I am using 732-6211-ND (7.5uH) Rx coil (although the caps in the schematic are for 8uH coil:: Does that make much of a difference?)

The problem is that; when I start the BQ50002EVM-607 Tx (with Rx coil placed on top); I hear buzzer sound and Green LED blinks (at about 1.25Hz) indicating that the power is being transferred. Charging LED on Rx board also lights up. This happens for few seconds after which the Green LED(D6) stops and D5(RED LED) lights up and the charging LED on Rx also stops. It means some error occurred (I am unable to figure out what is the error).

Here are the scope captures(Vrect in Yellow and V_TS in GREEN) I got:

D5 (RED) LED lights up at the time when the voltages drops. If we see the datasheet it seems like a TS_GND fault.

Bill (Application engineer at TI) had suggested to increase the R_FOD from 140 ohm and shorting R23 on Tx EVM to disable FOD functionality.

I shorted R23 on Tx EVM and increased R_FOD from 140 till 1000 ohm on custom Rx board but the problem remains the same.

I have tested with drained and semi-drained 3.7V Li-Ion batteries. Same error

I tried with applying 40mA load across the battery terminals-Same error

After few attempts; now even the charging LED on custom Rx board has stopped to lit up which used to light up for at least few seconds before.

Please help me in this regard. I really need to get it working asap.

Thanks

Part Number:BQ51050B

Hello,
i have an issue with the coil free space inductance measurement Ls. I don't really get what it represents and how to proceed for measuring it.
I'm using this coil : WR221230-36M8-G from TDK
The given inductance is the Ls' value at 1Vrms and 100kHz equal to 27.9uH. That leads to C1=93nF. And now i'm stuck with the Ls value for C2.

BQ51050B: How RFOD and Ros affect the FOD mechanism ?

$

Part Number:BQ51050B

Hello,

I'm actually designing an IoT product which include a wireless charging solution following the WPC 1.1 standard. The BQ51050B has the advantage of having an integrated Li-ion charger so I choose this one. My goal is to recharge a Li-ion battery with a "fast charge" current of 1A.
Following your datasheet, application note and EVM (bq51050BEVM-764), I understand and found the different values of the calibration components (Resonant capacitor, max current output resistor, termination resistor ...) but I don't understand one feature: how Ros and RFOD calibrate the FOD mechanism ?

I understood that those resistors must have an particular attention and must be "calibrated" to assure the WPC v1.1 Compatibility. I found your associated tool (Foreign Object Detection (FOD) Calibration/Tuning Tool) and I have some question about it:
1) How the model error curve is established ? What parameters determine this curve and how Vos change this model ?
2) By manipulating Vos (I suppose the voltage in the resistor Ros) to fix the model error, does this value impact on the electrical characteristic of the resistor ?
3) Electrically speaking, how Ros change the offset and RFOD the slope of the Ploss curve ?
Is there a kind of equation about this relationship ?
I guess one of those resistor (RFOD ?) represents components that influence received power (part 6.2 of User Manual) and the voltage (VFOD) must be a part of this equation.

Sorry for those questions but I would like to have at least few informations about FOD mechanism before building the PCB.
The goal of the project is to have a proof of concept so we probably won't need the AVID tool for now. I want to be sure that with the EVM value (Ros = 42.2k and RFOD = 200), I will have a functional device.

Thank you

Dears,

When I test TI RX/TX EVM FOD function, I found if I put a copper foil between RX to TX coil, there isn't any alert tips to me.

Only after I put the RX coil far away from TX coil about 1cm.  the output current of RX coil will be stopped.

so regarding FOD function, I'd like to know details when it be actived.

Hi,

I'm working on a design based on BQ51003 with a low Icc due to usage of a  small battery (60mAh) : high constraint about PCB size : very small.

I'll use a 4 layers PCB, but after reading documentation and have a look on reference design, I've few questions :

- PCB thickness : 0.8mm possible? or not recommanded? with the small Icc not necessary to use 1.55mm?

- layer thickness equal 0.036 mm (Tpo, Mid1, Mid2, Bot)

- about via in Pad for BGA footprint :

hole size 0.152mm, diameter =0.254mm ?

via tenting on the bottom mandatory

is it necessary to fill via?

I can't find these informations in reference design, thanks for your help, recommandations and feedback
